Archagathus / Paucities

Today we won't dig into new releases, instead we will rewind back to a few years ago and listen to and speak about one small and filthy split. Blowing off the dust, lay on carefully, expose the needle and let's go...On one side Canadian beer lovers Archagathus begin to play measurdly, and with these hellish sounds we will look through and touch on this split. Archagathus have payed attention to a very painful theme, forsaken bloody whaling. An unpleasant picture of a dead animal, here is something to think about, guys. And their colleagues from Paucities have taken a comic impact on the cover art,in fact they refreshed an old Dead Infection cover. And I should admit that it turned out to be very funny. Now let's come back to the creepy sounds coming from the speakers. It's hard to say that this time the Canadians have jumped over their own head but in general the material is good enough, it is definitely not their best work. It's full of well-known rhytms and riffs,Archagathus are a band who are hard to confuse with anyone. There's plenty of details characterizing the Mincecore style, swinging middle-tempo, different screaming and growling vocals and chainsaw-style guitar and filthy sound in addition. Chicago merry fellows from Paucities demonstrated very good material. Raw-with-mold sound, loud drumming parts, a lot of noisy guitars. To confess first of all I haven't been able to get into the tracks hard. But, when I listened more and more I found a lot of pleasant features. Small guitar scales, sometimes just thrashing, funny drumming coming off from the strict line and more. This recording reminded me somehow early Unholy Grave with its raw sound and song structures a little bit. Rating: 7.5/10 Archagathus Paucities
