Smallpox Aroma - Collection of Vivisection

Thailand is a country sort of shrouded in mystery when it comes to Grind and other extreme genres of music. Hailing from Bangkok,Thailand Smallpox Aroma bring us a bone splintering dose of Goregrind and Grindcore. This release features 70 tracks from across their discography. The cover art is very simple and doesn't distract you too much from the real artistry. Depicting a human head swarming with maggots and insect larvae. Now let's dig into the massive feast laid before us. I must admit it's definitely odd to hear Smallpox Aroma with a drum program/drum machine after being so adjusted to their sound with real drums. The first few songs are less Grind and more of a Brutal Death Metal/Slam feel. Which isn't horrible because they still manage to mix in Grind elements throughout. Once the real Goregrind/Grindcore fury kicks in it is just endless. Gurgling putrid grunts, bone chilling shrieks, chainsaw riffs and pinging to high hell drums! The tempo never seems to hit a lull, constantly feeding your aural receptors into a woodchipper. The raw energy and aggression shown on this compiled release prove this band is a force unlike most others. Several times throughout this album I wanted to get up and dance because the groove was so thick. Other times I wanted to rip someone apart in a mosh pit. To say this album doesn't have a bit of everything for Gore fans, is saying Thailand has no extreme music. Rating: 7/10 Smallpox Aroma fb

BOLO - Warriors Of Peace

I'm pretty late with this review. I know, but I can't avoid writing something about this interesting album. So why is this tape so special and interesting? The fact of powerviolence in post Soviet countries is interesting in itself, because this genre is very rare there. This small band is based in the west part of Russia, these guys live in St. Petersburg, The “Warriors Of Peace” is their 5th work. And I must admit that BOLO has mutated in something different. I'm sure that this was a new page in their history. These noises are very different from their previous works. And that is the main reason why I want to write about this cassette release. Interesting fact, this tape was released by American label Ill Faith Records, there was about 50 copies (?) with gloomy dark covers and with snow white cassettes. With this combination of colors, the tapes look really massive and awesome. It's hard to describe all the technical, genre and sound nuances of "Warriors Of Peace". I have a strong feeling that these guys were inspired by Man is the Bastards, Neanderthal, etc. (when they wrote these 9 songs, of course). Well anyway that turns into something really crazy and chaotic. So let's turn up the volume and make the noise louder and let's dig into this album. The “Warriors Of Peace” start`s with some monolog with some industrial/psychedelic sound effects… I guess this prepares the listener for the main part. Well the main dish can bite you, haha! These sharp riffs and crazy screams can make a hole in your brain. Rhythm changes are not discouraged. The bass intro in “Symbol Of Death” is so cool… that primitive shrieking sound leads into a land of schizophrenic chaos! And of course I couldn't forget tonwrite about those fast drum tracks. These bears are really painful! This short and magic album ends like it starts. With some psychedelic noises and a dreadful voice… Rating: 8/10 BOLO bc BOLO fb

Dead Fetus Collection / Harmony Fault (Uterus Productions)

Brazil and Goregrind. These two words are synonyms. People of that country are really sick! There are so many bands who are screaming and roaring about murder, gore and other filthy things... And that is freaking cool! Today I wanna tell the bloody story of two slimy bands, Dead Fetus Collection and Harmony Fault. That short story has 2 chapters, chapters that will tell you about horror and disgusting things. The first chapter called “Dead Fetus Collection”... Dead Fetus Collection is a band that got my attention a few years back and the first piece of noise that I heard was their first full length album "Sadistic Necro Chamber". I have no need to compare the old album with this new recording, the guys didn't turn from the way of old Gore. Most of the music of Dead Fetus Collection consists of low sound, heavy buzzing guitar, vomiting vocals and middle tempo drums. Sometimes this monster can be fast like in “Cisticercose”, this song reminds me of a weird and explosive mix of Dead Infection with Oxidised Razor. Also the guys did a great cover of Gut, just check their “Killed And Mutilated In Kashmir” it`s total “Crippled Bitch” worship, haha!) Chapter 2 “Harmony Fault”. This band has existed for 15 years, during all this time, the guys have released many records. Some of them good, some not so much. But, this last recording session is strong as the thirst for blood of Dracula. These 4 songs are so groovy… And they're really full of fun. The vocals are loud and on top of the music, but it's not poorly executed. Its piled with watery effects and sound like a mix of flatulence and vomit. Guitar sounds is not so low, it has a tiny taste of Metal /Punk buzzing. Also I like the almost “clear” sound of the drums, these “tupa tupa” beats are so groovy! In case you love groovy Grind, this might be your band. This review is dedicated to the memory of Luciano Battistini... Rest in peace man! Rating: 7.5/10 Dead Fetus Collection Harmony Fault You can buy this 7" thru Uterus Productions

Sonic Poison - Combat Grind

Look who`s back! The young Finnish grinders from Sonic Poison have recorded new stuff! The guys didn't act like stinky cunts, they did not split up after the first ep “Harsh Demonstration” (you all know how many band love to split up after their first badass record) and that made me really happy. Their new work was released in tape format and it wears a proud name “Combat Grind”. With this lovely tape the guys are acting like Jeffrey Dahmer. They drill our heads with good and powerful noise and then they inject painful poison of oldstyle Grind. Our Finnish friends hid 7 ugly songs under this filthy cover. And I think that this cover deserves a separate review. I noted a tiny connection with the previous work (mostly because of the similar way of tearing the flesh). Just look closely at this art… I see theres a lot of influence from H. P. Lovecraft novels and maybe from Warhammer 40k universe. Tentacles, monsters, guts, corpses and an endless void of pain. What else do we need? So this satanic trip in old school times has a moldy taste. A taste of old sound and old hairy riffs. These Finnish guys really love the golden times of good music. Sonic Poison managed to recreate a dark, doomy atmosphere, but, with the addition of something all their own. Between sharp guitar riffs, solos and crazy blast beats seeps badass hoarse vocal. These screams and roars help to spice up the tracks with different textures and patterns. Every song has groovy death metal moments that actually remind me of bands like Repulsion, Obituary, Necrony, Impetigo, etc. I was surprised at the lack of samples from different movies… there is just music. These guys shoot song by song without any pauses, and it does them an honor. So if you`re a freak who loves old style music or you are an old man who is in nostalgic of old times, this tape is definitely for you! Rating: 8.5 Sonic Poison bc Sonic Poison fb

Insufferable - Agony

Sometimes small towns have a lot of secrets… Sometimes they can breed really terrible and crazy people. I'm sure that we have that kind of situation here. So the towns are Rosyth and Livingstone (Scotland land) and the band - Insufferable. I'm sure that boys from that this duo (trio?) is very quiet, maybe even shy but, all of them have heads full of dirty maggots. Just listen to their harsh music and you will understand what I'm talking about. If I remember it right they started making some noise somewhere in 2015 (maybe earlier)... They had started with simple primitive noisecore/grind, total free improvisation, just play as fast as you can and scream as loud as you can. Slowly step by step this band grew and developed. The noise infection has spread more and more around their bodies… They became more experienced with their play. Which gave rise to this new, nasty and interesting album… So why is this album interesting in particular? Well the guys managed to meld in something new, something with stronger balls and louder sound. The most noticeable change here is that they put some elements of powerviolence into their noise mess. Now these songs are not just short, fast and super noisy, now they are slowing down and then jump to full speed at the drop of a hat. As always they did not spare themselves and gave all their strength and all their ferocity for this album. So as I said Agony have a lot of fast and crazy moments (these little moments can damage your mind by the way), drums and distorted bass are violently low and fast. Also we have here screaming and yelling, different sound (noise) effects… in the case of “Streams of Curses” we can observe even some psychedelic tricks. For me “Agony” became a good example of irregular noise… Of course this music is not for everyday listening, but if you have the right mood, this album can really crush you. Ah, almost forgot. I recommended you grab a few cold beers while you listen to this one 😉
